Proposition 84 Round 1 IRWM Implementation

Funding Agency: Department of Water Resources
Funding Source: Proposition 84

Funding Awarded: $ 12,660,004
Anticipated Completion: June 30, 2019

The IRWM Grant Program was designed to encourage integrated regional management of water resources and provide funding for projects that support integrated water management planning and implementation. This is the first round of grant funding under the Safe Drinking Water, Water Quality and Supply, Flood Control, River and Coastal Protection Bond Act of 2006 (Proposition 84).

This round of projects will implement the first phase identified in the Santa Ana River Watershed’s One Water One Watershed (OWOW), Integrated Regional Water Management Plan (IRWM). The project portfolio integrates projects across geographic boundaries and provides multiple benefits to the region.

Thirteen lead agencies from across the region will be constructing projects that when complete will offset up to 15% of projected imported water demand for the region. These projects can be placed in three groups based on primary project benefits, though the projects provide additional benefits beyond the primary benefit of the project. Two projects will enhance the use of recycled water and provide additional groundwater recharge. Four projects improve flood management/ habitat while improving surface water quality. Seven projects will provide additional salt removal and groundwater quality improvement.
